Dad bought the 5 acres of property that are behind our house. I was remembering how much fun I had playing back there (when we didn't own it...) and thought Brooklyn would have fun too. And she does! So we've taken to building forts.
In this one Brooklyn is sad because she fell down and got her hands and coat wet. But she really helped out with the construction of this fern wall for the kitchen.
Here is a view of the fort that we built for a deer home. She is convinced the deer sleep there at night. She even left them a snack of pretend water in a pretend bucket (we've learned to deal with water in pretend forms so we don't get wet and cold.)
And this is our skull. We found it while raking the inside of the fort. I was a little freaked out at first. So I hooked through the eye socket with a machete so I didn't have to touch it. I told Brooks I was scared of it and she said in a super high-pitched voice "it's not scary! It's our nice little skull, he is our friend!" So, now it is part of the design. I kind of like it now. At first I was thinking it was a coyote, but it is too small. Andy thinks it is something a coyote drug into the woods and killed. Oh well, he is guarding our fort for us now! I like to imagine someone coming across it and getting freaked out, that would make me happy.

I found some odd bones once on a hike and it was a little disconcerting since you don't know where they came from or the cause of death but I think if I found a whole skull I might be both freaked out and exhilerated because you really don't find stuff like that much.
Sara, you are the COOLEST!!!
Sara... now I remember why you were absolutely vital as a babysitter in our early years... no one else would have answered our wierdness with facts :)!
Okay, so Sydney has been telling me for a long time how jealous she is about our fort-building youth. She's going to be way jealous about this!
